Suicide

Nothing is as sad as a suicide.  The emotional and psychological pain and torture a person must feel to attempt this desperate action can only be understood by the victim of this suffering.  Nevertheless, the pain and torture they leave behind will be felt forever by many people.  Nothing will ever replace that person in the lives of those who love them.  The possibility of a bright future is undeniable even though to suicidal patients these times do not seem to be anywhere close in time.  The void and inadequacy felt by the loved ones left behind will linger for a lifetime.

Answering personal or practical problems with suicide is not a feasible or logical solution.  Almost any problem is easily solvable.  Failing to see the possibility of this one’s future may cause some to contemplate suicide, however, suicide does not solve problems.  Rather it compounds them, and it only delegates more painful problems onto your loved ones as well.

There are a number of warning signs that may suggest an individual is perhaps suicidal.  Simply asking a person in a concerned manner about their problems may mean the difference between life and death.  Some of the suicide warning signs may include: self-destructive behavior, isolation from family and friends, talk of hopelessness, disappointment or guilt, changes in eating or sleeping habits, trouble concentrating, lack of desire to take part in preferred activities, interest and discussion about death and/or suicide, the use of the term, “going away”, in reference to themselves, and the distribution of personal items.

People that suffer from depression and drug abuse are more susceptible to suicide for similar reasons.  In both cases, their condition can propel the victims to a feeling of hopelessness, to emphasize on failures, or to focus on the negative aspects of their given situation.  This slope tends to direct the sufferers to ignore their self worth or the value of their lives to their friends or family.  For those who feel these symptoms, there is help and a brighter future available.  Seeking professional help is an essential part of making a new, happier beginning for yourself if you are feeling suicidal.  There is hope available, and many individuals and professionals are here to help share this hope with you or anyone you know that is suicidal.

Suicide is never the only option, if you or someone you know are talking about or considering suicide? Contact one of our psychiatrists today and talk to them about alternative solutions to your problems!
