Panic Attacks

A panic attack is an abrupt feeling of crushing and even paralyzing fear that overwhelms a sufferer without warning or even motive sometimes.  It is behavior or reaction without reason or justification.  Not just anxiety or worry, this affliction can actually deprive the victim of action, reaction, or even movement without cause.  It is estimated that 33 percent of Americans will experience at least one panic attack in their lifetime, but luckily, most do not develop into a habitual disorder.  For those whom it does develop into a habitual disorder, the results prove devastating.

In many cases, professional help is extremely necessary.&

nbsp; Psychiatrists can help individuals get over their panic attacks and anxiety disorders.  For individual sufferers, getting over your fear and contacting a psychiatrist is necessary in reaching a solution to your panic attack problems.  This makes panic attacks the most common of all emotional disorders.

Symptoms of panic attacks can include:
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Chest pain
  • Skin blotches
  • Lightheadedness
  • Skin discoloration
  • Shortness of breath
  • Choking sensations
  • Hot flashes or chills
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Disconnection to reality
  • Bowel or urinary urgency
  • Fear of losing mental stability
  • Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
  • Numbness or tingling sensations in the face or extremities
A panic attack can begin at any given minute without rhyme or reason.  Symptoms include shortness of breath, sweating, tingling in the appendages or the entire body, overwhelming fear and discomfort, the desire to freeze, and sensations of being outside of your body.  The discomfort and panic from panic attacks peak within 10 minutes.  Generally, all sweating and other less paralyzing symptoms do not normally last very long, about half an hour or so.

The nature of panic attacks causes great anxiety in sufferers.  This in turn may cause repeat panic attacks for them.  In a vast majority of cases, individuals suffering from chronic panic attacks at seemingly regular intervals do not even realize this discomfort as a disease.  Victims of reoccurring panic attacks usually suffer from other social disorders or phobias like depression or agoraphobia due to the panic attacks occurring at any given moment.  The inability to control the timing of these attacks causes many patients to isolate and avoid their peers.  In many cases, work or school is a tortuous event for some suffers as they regularly experience panic attacks while at these venues on a daily basis.  Sometimes, actions taken during or to prevent panic attacks lead other mental disorders to become the diagnosis for some individuals.  In other cases, depression, as well as other anxiety disorders, appears in a patient’s life due to the hopeless feelings derived from their condition.
